Sting Goes Back To Bass For New 2013 Tour

March 7, 2013

One of the most successful male pop singers of the late 20th Century, Sting spent much of the last decade focusing on 16th Century lute music, festive classical compositions and symphonic reworkings of his back catalogue. However, the man previously known as Gordon Sumner seems to have finally realised what most of his fans really want with the release of Sting tickets for the 2013 leg of his ongoing Back To Bass tour.

Indeed, this is the third consecutive year the 61-year-old has decided to ditch his avant-garde tendencies and instead team up with the regular five-piece backing band of guitarist Dominic Miller, keyboardist David Sancious, fiddler Peter Tickell, backing vocalist Jo Lawry and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta for a more stripped-back Greatest Hits set.

Sting Tickets

Kicking off at Kelowna’s Prospera Place on May 30th, Sting will perform 17 dates across the USA and Canada before travelling to Europe where he will play at the likes of Cork’s The Marquee, Rome’s Foro Italico and Samara’s Palace of Sport in addition to headline sets at Rotterdam’s North Sea Jazz Festival, Copenhagen’s Tivoli and Poland’s Life Festival.

There are currently Sting tickets on sale for eight of his North American shows, with an average get-in price of $125 and overall average tour price of $285. Availability is limited for the dates at the Santa Barbara Bowl on June 3rd ($105/$255) and Highland Park’s Ravinia Pavilion on June 7th and 8th (both $98/$215). But there are still over 500 Sting tickets left for the gigs at Morrison’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 5th ($86/$320), Baltimore’s Pier Six Concert Pavilion on June 12th ($96/$354), Boston’s Bank Of America Pavilion on June 21st ($125/$331) and Uncasville’s Mohegan Sun Arena on the 22nd ($69/$207). The latter of which is both the lowest get-in and overall average price.

If Sting sticks to the set-lists of the last two years, then fans can look forward to an ‘all killer, no filler’ night out. 1993 career peak Ten Summoner’s Tales has inevitably received the most attention so far with signature hit “Fields Of Gold” and “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You” regular fixtures. But material from his solo career beginnings (“Englishman In New York, Fragile”) and 00s period (“Sacred Love, Desert Rose”) has also had a look in too.

But for a particular section of his audience, it’s the tracks he originally recorded with The Police that will provide the most excitement. Transatlantic number one, “Every Breath You Take,” has made an appearance at almost every show since the tour began at Boston’s Wang Theatre back in 2011, while chart-toppers “Message In A Bottle” and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and fan favorites “Wrapped Around Your Finger” and “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da” have also helped to add to the tour’s Very Best Of feel.
