The 2014 Louisville Cardinals finished their season with a 9-4 record, but struggled against teams ranked in the Top-25. Louisville was winless against Top-25 opponents and was blown out by the 13th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, 37-14 in the Belk Bowl. Louisville’s defense did not have an answer for running back, Nick Chubb. Chubb rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns in the blowout victory. Nine wins is still an impressive feat for a Louisville that was playing without Teddy Bridgewater for the first time in three seasons. The presence of senior wide receiver, DeVante Parker aided Louisville’s passing attack. Parker, who dealt with a foot injury, caught 43 passes for 855 yards and five touchdowns in limited action after totaling 22 touchdowns during his prior two seasons with Bridgewater. Many scouts believe Parker will be a first round pick and may be reunited with Bridgewater in Minnesota. Without Bridgewater, Louisville’s quarterback spot was unsettled as the team dealt with injuries and inconsistent play. Will Gardner, Reggie Bonnafon, and Kyle Bolin will all compete for the starting spot during spring practice.

Entering the 2015 season, Louisville must determine which quarterback will start in Week 1. When healthy, Gardner proved to be the best option as he posted an impressive 12:3 TD:INT ratio in limited action. Whoever emerges will not have the services of Parker, Eli Rogers, Kai De La Cruz, and tight end, Gerald Christian. Christian served as a security blanket as he caught 32 passes for 384 yards and five touchdowns. Louisville’s senior leadership led the program through its first season as a member of the ACC, but its 2015 schedule is filled with numerous tough opponents. Louisville will have a chance to make an early statement in Week 1 against the Auburn Tigers.
