(Update 4-17-2015) Calgary pulled off a thrilling win over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series. The Flames’ Kris Russell scored to give Calgary a one point lead with just 30 seconds left in regulation. Vancouver will hope to even the series before it moves to Calgary for Game 3. The current average price of Canucks playoff tickets for Game 2 is $484.18, 21.2% above Vancouver’s series average. However, the series will still be 56% more expensive when games are played in Calgary. Flames playoff tickets have an average price of $623.36 for Games 3, 4 and 6. If the Flames can go up 2-0 on the Canucks, those prices could get even higher.

(Update 4-15-2015) Vancouver and Calgary are involved in one of two Stanley Cup Playoffs series with two Canadian teams. As expected, ticket prices for those games on the secondary market are fairly high. The series will open Wednesday night in Vancouver and Canucks playoff tickets have an average price of $382.81 across their four potential home games in the series. That price has dropped 15.6% since the series was made official. However, Flames playoff tickets continue to rise in price on the secondary market. The average price for their three possible home games is $583.78, up 5.4% since the end of the regular season.

After missing out last season, the Vancouver Canucks are back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Last season, Vancouver finished fifth in the Pacific division with 83 points. That saw the firing of John Tortorella as head coach and the hiring of Willie Desjardins. The Canucks improved greatly in 2014-15, locking up second place in the Pacific and home ice advantage in the first round.

Currently, the average price for home Canucks playoff tickets in the first round is $453.85. With home ice advantage, Vancouver has the possibility of hosting four playoff games. The Canucks last made the playoffs in 2012-13 when they were swept by the San Jose Sharks in the first round. Vancouver hasn’t gotten past the first round of the playoffs since it reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2011.

During the regular season, Canucks tickets had an average price of $221, making tickets for their first round matchup a 105.36% premium on the secondary market. Vancouver’s regular season finale against the Edmonton Oilers on April 11 held a more expensive average price than any of the first round matchups. The game against Edmonton had an average price of $328.20.

Vancouver’s first round opponent will be the Calgary Flames, who finished third in the Pacific. Calgary and Vancouver met four times during the regular season, splitting those games. Vancouver won the first two games in October and December, but Calgary has won the two most recent meeting in January and February. Only the Canucks’ October 18 win came by more than one goal, a 4-2 victory.

It’s been six seasons since the Calgary Flames made the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The last trip came following the 2008-09 season when the Flames lost in the Quarterfinals to the Chicago Blackhawks. Calgary hasn’t won a playoff series since 2003-04 when they appeared in the Stanley Cup Final. It’s been a long wait for Flames fans to see the team reach the postseason, and it’s showing with high prices on the secondary market.

Currently Flames playoff tickets have an average price of $553.94 across the three possible games the team could host at Scotiabank Arena in the first round. As the third place team in the Pacific, they will play the Vancouver Canucks, the No. 2 team in the division. Prices are also high for these games due to a limited inventory of available tickets. Across the majority of Canadian teams, fans tend to hold onto their tickets, especially in the playoffs, creating a limited market for ticket resale.

During the regular season, Flames tickets had an average price of $195 on the secondary market, the sixth highest average in the league. That makes Flames playoff tickets during the first round carry a 184.1% premium over the regular season.

Calgary and Vancouver met four times during the regular season, splitting those games. Vancouver won the first two games in October and December, but Calgary has won the two most recent meeting in January and February. Only the Canucks’ October 18 win came by more than one goal, a 4-2 victory.

The Flames, under Bob Hartley, have made themselves a legitimate playoff threat, at least in the first round. The team improved more than 20 points in the standings from last season. Calgary saw much of that improvement come in goal scoring, where they ranked sixth in the NHL this season, opposed to 22nd last year.
