For the sixth season in a row, the Chicago Blackhawks will be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Blackhawks are two seasons removed from their last Stanley Cup Final victory in 2013. This season, however, was not the typical dominant Blackhawks season many in Chicago have been used to seeing. For the second straight year, Chicago finished third place in the Central division.

Chicago finished below last years team in points, though some of that can be attributed to losing Patrick Kane for the latter part of the season. Kane, who still finished second on the team in goals scored, has been out since the end of February after breaking his left clavicle. There is still enough firepower in Chicago to make the Blackhawks dangerous and drive up prices on the secondary market.

Blackhawks playoff tickets currently have an average price of $345.06 over the three potential first round games to be played at United Center. Expensive tickets will not be a new thing in Chicago this year. During the regular season, Blackhawks tickets had an average price of $258 on the secondary, the second highest price in the NHL. That is a 37.5% premium above the regular season average.

Playoff tickets this season also hold a premium over the opening average from last year when Chicago defeated the St. Louis Blues. The average price for that series was $316.87, marking a 12% premium for this season.

Chicago will meet the Nashville Predators, who finished two points ahead of the Blackhawks in the Central division. While Nashville is the better seed and will host more home games, the more expensive games will come at the United Center. Blackhawks playoff tickets are currently 26% more expensive than the games set to be played at Bridgestone Arena.

Nashville last made the playoffs in 2012, but has not finished higher than fifth in the Central in the proceeding two seasons. The Predators faced the Red Wings in the first round and tickets on the secondary market had an average price of $125.15 over three home games. Nashville won that series 4-2. The year before, Nashville met Anaheim in the opening round with an average price of $161.21 on the secondary market.

This season, Predators playoff tickets have an average price of $280.62, 119% above 2012 and 70.2% above 2011. During the regular season, Predators tickets marked an average of just $85 on the secondary market, marking a 223% premium for the first round matchup.
