(UPDATE 4/28/15) The finale for Eric Clapton’s 70th birthday celebration will have to be put on hold for a day. Saturday night’s show has been moved to Sunday, May 3 to accommodate a New York Rangers Stanley Cup Playoff game. Though a schedule has not officially been released, the Rangers are expected to host a home game against the Washington Capitals some time on Saturday. That will push back Clapton’s second of two shows at Madison Square Garden to Sunday night. Friday’s show will go on as scheduled and all tickets for Saturday’s concert will be honored on Sunday.

Eric Clapton Tickets For Upcoming MSG Shows Own $310 Average on Resale Market
(UPDATE 4/27/15) Eric Clapton will be celebrating his 70th birthday in style this year. Slowhand is slated to play New York City’s Madison Square Garden twice this weekend, with shows scheduled on Friday and Saturday night. And while the iconic guitarist has stated that he won’t likely tour extensively again, ticket prices on the secondary market are still reasonably priced for his two Midtown shows.
Eric Clapton tickets on TicketIQ currently average at $337.20. The “Layla” singer’s first show on Friday sees a secondary average of $310.15 and the get-in price starts at $90. His second and final show the following night owns an average price of $358.57 and $88 low price. At the time of on sale last month, ticket price ranged anywhere between $80 and $500, marking a relatively small price premium for tickets on the resale market just five days out.
Clapton will then skip across the pond to his native England for seven consecutive shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall. He’ll play the notable venue between May 14 and 23, which currently serve as his last scheduled shows this year.
(UPDATE 3/17) With pre-sale for Eric Clapton’s 70th Birthday shows at Madison Square Garden occurring on Monday, the amount of tickets available on the secondary market increased ten-fold. As a result, the cheapest ticket available dropped from $246 to $157. Even with both shows expected to quickly sell out, Friday’s official on-sale should see another influx of quantity on the market and another price decrease, creating plenty of good options for buyers.
(3/12/15) Eric Clapton is celebrating his 70th birthday in style this year. The guitar virtuoso is set to play back-to-back dates at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on May 1 and 2. Pending the scheduling of a Rangers home playoff game, one show will be moved to May 3 if need be.
The two shows mark the 46th anniversary since Clapton first played the World’s Most Famous Arena. Then with his band Cream, the group performed on November 2, 1968. Since then, Clapton has wooed fans in Midtown Manhattan another 44 times. His May shows will bring his grand total to 47.
The news comes in the wake of Clapton’s recent hints at retiring from touring, citing long road trips and the work that goes into them as “unapproachable” moving forward. He is also scheduled for seven consecutive shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in May, which will serve as a native birthday celebration for the English-born musical icon.
