Cotto vs Geale tickets at Barclays Center Are Averaging $212 On Resale Market

June 3, 2015

This Saturday, Puerto Rican boxing superstar and current WBC Middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KO’s) returns to the ring almost a year to the day since he upset then-Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez at Madison Square Garden last June.  Cotto returns with a different promoter, Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports, who now promote the Puerto Rican fighter. Cotto will be fighting at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the first time in his career after years of fighting on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade at MSG.

The opponent for Cotto’s return will be Australia’s Daniel “Real Deal” Geale (31-3, 16 KOs) ,who in his last appearance on American soil was steamrolled and stopped in less than three rounds of work against potential future opponent for Cotto, Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin.  Cotto will put his Middleweight title on the line for his first defense and will be contested at a catchweight of 157 pounds.

On TicketIQ, Cotto vs Geale tickets at Barclays Center this Saturday have an average price of $211.54 on the secondary market.  The cheapest seat to get in for Saturday’s Middleweight title fight is $40.  Cotto tickets have seen a 57% decrease from his last fight at the Garden, where tickets for his last appearance against Martinez were on average $502.96 with the cheapest seat priced at $100.

The level of opponent that Cotto will be in the ring with this Saturday may be the cause of the decrease in average price for tickets. That along with a new promoter and a different venue all factor in for ticket prices.

Cotto is an interesting situation this Saturday, while he is the favorite to win the fight, he will be the considerably smaller man come fight night against Geale, who will come into the ring that night with a three inch height and four inch reach advantage.

However, the catchweight of 157 pounds for this fight could give Cotto an edge in this fight, as Geale already struggles to make 160 pounds and will have to sweat off an extra three pounds that could affect him.

Still, it will be interesting to see how Cotto, a smaller fighter, will handle an experienced and two-time former World Champion Middleweight boxer in Geale who can provide a stiff test in the bout.

If all goes well for Cotto this Saturday against Geale, there is verbal agreement already in place for him to square off with Mexican Superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in a lucrative Middleweight showdown this fall.  The boxing world will be rooting for Cotto to win this Saturday.
