One of the alternative metal scene’s biggest bands will pay tribute to their Armenian heritage next year following the announcement of a System of a Down seven-date trek dubbed Wake Up The Souls.

The Californian quartet will wrap up the tour with a debut performance in their forefathers’ homeland at Yerevan’s Republic Square on April 23, a show which will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide.

Over 1.5 million Armenians were killed during the Ottoman Empire’s period of ethnic cleansing, and as well as informing fans of the atrocity through their official website, the band are also hoping to raise awareness with their first run of gigs in two years.

The Wake Up The Souls tour will kick off at London’s Wembley Arena on April 10 before moving onto Germany’s Lanxess Arena, France’s La Halle Tony Garnier, Belgium’s Forest National, the Netherlands’ Ziggo Dome and Russia’s Olympisky, eventually concluding with their historic date in the Armenian capital.

Fans who manage to get their hands on System of A Down tickets should look forward to hearing material spanning from 1998’s self-titled debut right up to 2005’s Hypnotize including their breakthrough hit “Chop Suey,” the US Hot 100 singles “Toxicity” and “Aerials,” and the Grammy-winning “B.Y.O.B.”

Although no US dates have been announced as yet, System of A Down tickets are available for their only 2014 show on December 13 (TicketIQ get-in price $212), where they will perform alongside the likes of Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy and Incubus at Inglewood’s The Forum for the first night of the 25th annual KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas.
