The unveiling of the TicketIQ Top 25 continues. Today’s grouping features schools ranked 20 through 16. The mix of schools is interesting, as two of the five were unranked last preseason, while two other schools were in the top-10. Over the next week, we’ll unveil five schools per day on our list of most expensive average prices for college football teams for the 2015 season. All prices listed below are from the secondary market and all data is provided by TicketIQ. The rankings and price changes are compared to last year’s 2014 preseason TicketIQ Top 25.
20. Mississippi State | Avg. Price: $119.70
Last Year: NR | Price Change: +9.16%
There was a stretch of the 2014 season when Mississippi State was the top school in the country. The Bulldogs spent five weeks as the No. 1 ranked school in the AP Poll, before a loss to then-No. 4 ranked Alabama in mid-November. Even though the game against Alabama was the first of three losses over the last four games, last season’s performance is still boosting prices of Mississippi State football tickets this season. Mississippi State will try to get revenge in its most expensive game, against Alabama on November 14 with an average of $261.36 and a get-in price of $104 at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.
19. Oklahoma State | Avg. Price: $122.82
Last Year: 18 | Price Change: -4.38%
Oklahoma State only finished 2014 with a 7-6 record, but that hasn’t deterred Cowboys fans much from excitement for the 2015 season. While the average price of Oklahoma State football tickets dropped over 4% from the start of last season, the Cowboys only dropped one spot in the rankings. Oklahoma State found itself ranked through the middle of the 2014 season before five straight losses, four against ranked schools. The Cowboys got their biggest win of the season, though, against Oklahoma on the road. A home meeting against the Sooners on November 28 is Oklahoma State’s most expensive home game of the season with an average price of $246.15 and a get-in price of $105.
18. West Virginia | Avg. Price: $123.79
Last Year: NR | Price Change: +16.52%
Fellow Big 12 school West Virginia also spent a few weeks ranked in the AP Poll, but it was only for a stretch of three weeks and the Mountaineers did not eclipse No. 20. Still, even the brief success during last season has helped West Virginia football tickets jump over 16% in average price from last season and go from unranked to No. 18 on the TicketIQ Top 25. The Mountaineers are still finding their way in their new conference, entering their fourth year in the Big 12. After a 10-3 record in its final season in the Big East, West Virgina has yet to win more than seven games in a season in the Big 12.
17. Oregon | Avg. Price: $124.02
Last Year: 8 | Price Change: -18.57%
Lose the National Championship Game, and a star quarterback, and secondary market ticket prices will drop. That appears to be the case in Eugene, where the price of Oregon football tickets has fallen 18.57% from last season. It’s understandable, since behind Marcus Mariota, the Ducks were Pac-12 and College Football Playoff favorites. This season is a little more unknown, but the Ducks have only lost four games in the past two seasons under Mark Helfrich. A game against Oregon State will be the priciest at Autzen Stadium with an average price of $203.98 and a get-in price of $86 on November 27. It is currently the only Ducks home game with an average above $200.
16. Penn State | Avg. Price: $125.72
Last Year: 10 | Price Change: -16.1%
Penn State is the first of four Big Ten schools that will appear in these rankings. Last year they opened the season with the second most expensive tickets in the conference, but have been leaped by two others. A disappointing 7-6 season in 2014 dropped the average price of Penn State football tickets 16% on the secondary market. However, with the promise of Christian Hackenberg at quarterback and a defense that ranked seventh in the country in points against last season, the Nittany Lions could take a step forward. The most expensive game is currently the last of the season at Beaver Stadium, a November 21 meeting with the Michigan Wolverines, with an average of $189.67 and a get-in price of $87.
