Cubs vs Mets Tickets For NLCS Are Seeing World Series Demand

October 14, 2015

Chicago Cubs

Update: 10/20:  The Chicago Cubs will be taking the field at Wrigley down 0-2 after losing both games to the New York Mets at Citi Field. That by no means rules the Cubs out of the series, but it will be a tough hill to climb, especially after using Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta in Games 1 and 2. As the Cubs return to Chicago, secondary market prices have dropped, though still remain pricy. Below are the current prices for the three games at Wrigley:

Game 3 - 10/20 - Avg. Price: $518.38 | Get-in Price: $175

Game 4 - 10/21 - Avg. Price: $625.66 | Get-in Price: $208

Game 5* - 10/22 - Avg. Price: $834.44 | Get-in Price: $255

*If necessary

Update 10/16: With the Mets officially claiming a spot in the NLCS, the series will be the most expensive  TicketIQ has tracked for an LCS since 2010. The current average price for Cubs tickets across their three home games is $1,218.42, the most expensive home average for LCS tickets on the secondary market. Mets tickets have an average of $832.14, for four potential home games, the second most expensive home LCS average since 2010.

There's no fan base that's waited longer for a championship than the followers of the Chicago Cubs. It was 1908 the last time the Cubs won the World Series, 107 years ago. Chicago is just a series away from making it back to the World Series for the first time since 1945. The Cubs have been to the NLCS three times since then, but each team has seen the team fall short.

With so much anticipation for a championship, secondary market prices exploded when the Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the NLDS and clinched a spot in the NLCS. Now Cubs tickets are the most expensive TicketIQ has tracked for any LDS series since 2010 when we started keeping track of data.

Cubs tickets are so expensive, home tickets for the NLCS would be the fourth most expensive for a World Series over the same time frame. The current average for home games at Wrigley Field -- which would be Games 3, 4 and 5 -- is $1,357.85. No team has come close to a $1,000 secondary market home average for an LCS with the next most expensive team being the 2012 San Francisco Giants with an average of $687.15.

It’s interesting to note should the New York Mets defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of their NLDS series on Thursday, they would have the second most expensive home average tracked on the secondary market. Mets tickets currently have an average of $846.43 for NLCS games.
