The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will make its way to Toronto later this month, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Green Day are coming along for the ride.

The East Bay punk-rock quartet, who set to release their 12th studio album Revolution Radio next month, will perform in the Scotiabank World Cup of Hockey Fan Village in downtown Toronto on Friday, September 23. The performance will be held following a salute to members of Canada's 2016 team in the city's historic Distillery District.

While the Grammy Award-winning band has yet to announce a full-fledged tour in support of Revolution Radio, the Canada-based gig may be serve as a fitting warm-up. The band last toured extensively in 2013 with the "99 Revolutions" World Tour in support of the album trilogy of ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tre!. The Toronto gig marks their first performance in Canada since April of that year, when they played back-to-back shows at Air Canada Centre in Toronto and Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City.

The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will officially begin on Saturday, September 17. The tournament will follow a three-round format beginning with the Preliminary Round Robin Stage over a six-day period. A single-elimnation Semifinal Round will follow while the best-of-three Final will be held between Tuesday, September 27 and Saturday, October 1.
