Alice Cooper & Marilyn Manson Team Up For Masters Of Madness: Shock Therapy Tour

March 25, 2013

Unarguably the biggest shock-rockers of their respective generations, it’s amazing that no-one has ever thought about the idea of a joint tour before. But fans of gothic glam rock finally got the chance to buy Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson tickets this year with the news of a co-headlining series of shows entitled Masters of Madness: Shock Therapy.

Of course, the fact that the two giants of theatrical metal haven’t always seen eye to eye may have put pay to an earlier collaborative venture, with Cooper previously publicly objecting to the overtly anti-Christian antics of Manson’s stage shows, not to mention questioning the originality of adopting a woman’s name and dressing in female  clothing.

But after performing a duet together at the B’Estival event in Bucharest in 2007, the pair have obviously buried the hatchet, resulting in this series of eleven dates which kick off at Morrison’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 3 with a get-in price on TicketIQ of $57 and an tour low average price of $130 (compared to an overall tour average price of $165).

There are still hundreds of Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson tickets remaining on TicketIQ, although there is an extremely short supply for the opening night, the June 8 gig at El Paso’s Don Haskins Center ($80/$167) and the July 2 show at South Bend’s Morris Performing Arts Center ($161/$161). Currently, it’s the closing date at New York’s Beacon Theatre on July 18 that features the cheapest get-in price of the whole tour at just $57 (average price $156).

Marilyn Manson, who are no stranger to such a concept having joined forces with Rob Zombie for the 36-date 2012 Twins of Evil tour, will also warm-up for the spectacle with two separate dates at San Diego’s House Of Blues on May 29 ($103/$114) and Tempe’s Marquee Theater on May 30.

It’s not yet clear whether the ‘gruesome twosome’ will take to the stage together at any point. But whatever happens, those with Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson tickets should expect the unexpected.

Indeed, alongside his famous covers of Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams,” Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” and Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” and renditions of his signature hits, “Beautiful People,” “The Dope Show” and “mOBSCENE,” Manson’s 2012 Hey Cruel World… tour featured him performing in a gas mask, a contraption that blew both blasts of bright light and cold air into the crowd and the usual array of extravagant costume changes.

Whilst in addition to his plethora of hit singles, “School’s Out,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy” and “Poison” and reworkings of classic rock hits by The Doors (“Break  On Through (To The Other Side)”), The Who (“My Generation”) and The Jimi Hendrix Experience (“Foxy Lady”), Cooper’s last major live shows, a support slot on Iron Maiden’s 2012 world tour, also included his notorious guillotine gag, two further mock executions and what else, but a nurse sporting an industrial grinder.
