Newly Expanded Carolina Rebellion Keeps It Loud
March 18, 2013
After expanding to a two-day event, the third annual Carolina Rebellion stakes its claim to become the best rock festival in the entire Mid-Atlantic when it arrives at the Rock City Campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord on the weekend of May 4th and 5th. And with the likes of Soundgarden, Limp Bizkit and Alice in Chains topping the bill, Carolina Rebellion tickets are expected to sell out even quicker than last year’s celebration of all things rock, punk, metal, post-hardcore and grunge.
The second leg of AEG Live’s World’s Loudest Month, an event which sees the cream of contemporary rock perform in front of over 200,000 fans at five separate gigs across five consecutive weekends, Carolina Rebellion joins Florida’s Welcome To Rockville, Wisconsin’s Rockfest, Ohio’s Rock On The Range and Oklahoma’s Rocklahoma on the list of must-see festivals for any self-respecting rock fan in 2013.
Last year saw the likes of Shinedown, Evanescence, Five Finger Death Punch, Korn, Staind and Slash take to the site’s Jagermeister and Monster Energy Carolina and Rebellion stages. But this year’s ‘who’s who of 90s/00s rock’ line-up, which was announced before Carolina Rebellion tickets went on sale to the public on February 8th, is arguably even more impressive.
Alongside headline slots from Jerry Cantrell and Fred Durst’s hugely influential outfits, Saturday will also see performances from Californian alt-metal veterans Deftones, Canadian post-grunge trio Three Days Grace and nu-metallers Papa Roach in addition to sets from Disturbed frontman David Draiman’s side project Device, the female-fronted In This Moment and Halestorm and Australian three-piece Sick Puppies.
Welsh thrash metal quartet Bullet For My Valentine spearhead a mini British invasion with Young Guns and Asking Alexandria also scheduled to appear, while emerging acts Otherwise, Aranda, Tracer and MastrO will represent the new wave of rock.
Chris Cornell’s recently reunited outfit continue the Seattle vibes on the Sunday, where they are joined by Chicago punks Rise Against, one of the few UK bands to embrace grunge, Bush, and Billboard chart-toppers 3 Doors Down at the top of the bill.
Elsewhere, US acts Buckcherry, All That Remains, Pop Evil, Escape The Fate, Nonpoint, Red Line Chemistry and American Fangs are accompanied by metalheads from Canada (Thousand Foot Krutch), Britain (Heaven’s Basement) and Denmark (Volbeat). Whle leftfield inclusions appear courtesy of spoof glam metal quartet Steel Panther and Los Angeles rap-rock collective Hollywood Undead.
Carolina Rebellion tickets are available in both weekend and single day general admission form with prices starting at $207. Those taking up the camping option also able to make full use of the general store and shower house facilities. While a new VIP space and a special artist tent, the latter of which will allow festivalgoers the chance to meet their guitar heroes, are perhaps the most notable changes since the event moved from its original Rockingham Speedway location.
