TicketIQ CFB Top 25 - Week 13 Update

November 26, 2013

Week 13 brought us another undefeated team going down. The victim this time was the Baylor Bears, who were smoked by the Oklahoma State Cowboys 49-17. The loss leaves the chase to the BCS National Championship down to Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State. All three teams are undefeated and are fighting for two spots. Alabama controls its own destiny but has a very difficult task to get there in #4 Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Oregon took another fall this week losing on the road to Arizona. This comes only a week after Oregon was a frontrunner for the Pac-12 Championship.

The Crimson Tide has been ranked the top team in the nation ever since the beginning of the season and is one game away from the SEC Championship. However the major task waiting in front of them is the Iron Bowl this upcoming Saturday against a tough Auburn team. Alabama football tickets moved up a spot in the TicketIQ Top 25 rankings to #6 with an average ticket price of $159. Alabama has been high in the rankings all year with good reason. To add to the excitement, A.J. McCarron’s name has appeared in the latest list of candidates for the Heisman trophy. If the Tide does win, they will either play Missouri or South Carolina in the SEC Championship game. Expect Alabama to reach the BCS National Championship in Pasadena.

The Oregon Ducks escaped a close upset this Friday against the Oregon State Beavers in the annual Civil War rivalry game. Unfortunately, the Stanford Cardinal has the tiebreaker against Oregon and will be headed to the Pac-12 Championship. Oregon football tickets have stayed in the upper echelon of our rankings and continued to stay there this week. They did however drop in price due to Oregon being out of the Pac-12 race to $157, a seven percent decrease. It also does not help that Marcus Mariota’s name has not been seen on too many expert’s Heisman candidate’s lists. Oregon will most likely head to one of the better Pac-12 non-BCS bowls such as the Holiday or Alamo bowl.

Jameis Winston has been the big name around college football for better and worse. Winston’s on-field performance has been nothing short of magnificent, passing for over 3000 yards and 32 TDs. Unfortunately, his off the field problems maybe hold him up from receiving the Heisman Trophy. The sexual assault case he has been linked to has been hovering over him for weeks now and may influence how the voters see Winston. As for FSU, the Seminoles are still perfect and looking for a berth to the title game. Florida State football tickets have been surprisingly low all season and have dropped FSU to #22 on our rankings. The average ticket price for the ‘Noles is $111, a one percent decrease from last week. A win in Gainesville against the lowly Gators and a victory in the ACC Championship will lead FSU to Pasadena in the BCS National Championship game.

Ever since the loss against LSU in late-September, the Auburn Tigers have not lost a game. The Tigers will get their chance to knock down the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide this week in the Iron Bowl. A win would give Auburn a chance to play in the SEC Championship game. As expected, Auburn football tickets soared this week, rising to # 8 in the TicketIQ Top 25 rankings. The tickets reached an average price of $153, a 13% increase from last week. However in the past few days, Iron Bowl tickets have seen a downward trend with the game approaching soon. Auburn is projected to go to the Sugar Bowl unless some drastic upsets take place this Saturday.
Ohio State has been in a sticky situation with their strength of schedule the whole season. The Buckeyes have still not lost a game under Urban Meyer in two seasons of play but still have to head to Ann Arbor. After the Michigan game, OSU will play #11 Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship game. Ohio State football tickets went down one percent to $208, good for 2nd on our rankings. Demand has been high for a team who is still looking for chance to play in the title game despite not losing a game. The new playoff system next year will definitely benefit teams like OSU in this circumstance. As for this year, the Buckeyes will probably be playing in the Rose Bowl Game in New Year’s Day.

South Carolina will take on #6 Clemson this weekend with a chance to head to the SEC Championship game. The Gamecocks have to win and need a Missouri loss to head to the game. Even with late-season hype, South Carolina football tickets still went down this week to #20 in the TicketIQ Top 25 rankings. The average ticket price is $113, a six percent decrease from last week. The Gamecocks have tried to restore their season after suffering losses earlier in the season to Georgia and Tennessee. South Carolina will look towards the Capital One Bowl for their postseason play with a win against the Tigers.

The LSU Tigers defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks this Friday 31-27, despite Zach Mettenberger going down to injury during the game. LSU football tickets went for $147 average ticket price, a one percent decrease. They also dropped a spot in our rankings to #9. LSU is now finished with their season that included losses to Georgia, Ole Miss and Alabama. The Tigers will be looking towards the Cotton Bowl for further postseason play.
