Bastille Continues 2014 Tour, Returns To North America In March

February 14, 2014

Ask any music fan in the UK and they will say Bastille tickets are their next purchase. Taking the music world by storm. Bastille are an English pop band formed in London in 2010. They began as a solo project by singer-songwriter Dan Smith, who later decided to form a band. The four-piece consists of members; Smith, Chris Wood, William Farquarson and Kyle Simmons. The name of the band derives from the French national holiday Bastille Day, an event celebrated on Smith's birthday, 14 July. Bastille debuted in June 2010 with a 7 inch single “Flaws” with “Icarus” as the b-side. Released through London-based independent record label, 'Young & Lost Club', only 300 copies were pressed. Nonetheless fans were now on the lookout for Bastille tickets in their city. In December 2010, EMI Music announced that they had offered Bastille a record contract with Virgin Records.

In 2011 Bastille followed up their debut single with the EP Laura Palmer.  After debuting further tracks online through sites such as YouTube and MySpace, the band received a great amount of attention from media and fans. The group subsequently secured a few support slots, and later performed at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, the Isle of Wight and Blissfields. Their lead single off their forthcoming debut LP, "Overjoyed" was subsequently released in April 2012. Their second single, "Bad Blood"  followed in August 2012, and achieved moderate success in the United Kingdom, charting at number ninety and increasing sales of Bastille tickets. The third track to be taken from Bad Blood, "Flaws" (a re-release of their first 7 inch single), became the group's first to enter the charts inside the Top 40, debuting at number twenty-one. In February 2013, ahead of the release of their debut album, the band's fourth single, "Pompeii", was released to huge demand, charting at number two in the UK and number six in the US.  Their debut studio album, titled Bad Blood, was released in March 2013 and debuted atop the UK Albums Chart.

Fans were able to get Bastille tickets for the Leeds and Reading Festival when Bastille played them on August 2013. "Laura Palmer" (re-released from the eponymous EP) was the fifth single to be released from the album. It was released in June 2013, and an accompanying video for the track premiered through the band's official VEVO. The group joined English rock band Muse as a supporting act on their The 2nd Law Tour in May 2013 and did so again in June 2013 seeing a spike in the sale of Bastille tickets.

In May 2013, Bastille released their Haunt EP in the US via iTunes. In July 2013 the band headlined their first UK summer music festival at Blissfields. The band was nominated for four Brit Awards at the 2014 ceremony, including for British Breakthrough Act, British Group, British Single of the Year and British Album of the Year, winning in the former category. As of February 2014, Bastille have sold over 2.07 million records in the UK alone.

Now, riding the success of their crossover single “Pompeii”, English rock group Bastille will be doing another round of US touring beginning this March. Playing many general admission venues such as Stage AE in Pittsburgh, Emo's in Austin and many House of Blues across the nation, a large amount of dates are long sold out.
