Morrissey Launches 2014 US Tour

February 18, 2014

After cancelling more shows than he played last year, one of rock’s most outspoken figures will now try to make amends with the release of Morrissey tickets for a 25-date tour across North America.

Morrissey

The former Smiths frontman, who was forced to call off numerous concerts in 2013 due to various illnesses, will return to the stage at San Jose’s City National Civic Auditorium on May 5 with his regular backing band of guitarists Boz Boorer and Jesse Tobias, bassist Solomon Walker, keyboardist Gustavo Manzur and drummer Matthew Walker.

The 54-year-old, whose recent memoir proved he’s lost none of his power to cause controversy, will then visit the likes of Salt Lake City’s Kingsbury Hall on May 16, St. Petersburg’s Mahaffey Theater on May 30 and Flint’s James Whiting Auditorium on June 14 before wrapping up at New York’s Barclays Center on June 21.

Although St. Louis singer-songwriter Kristeen Young will open most dates, the latter show will feature an unusual warm-up act in the shape of legendary British pop crooner Cliff Richard, while Welsh lounge lizard Tom Jones will provide the support on the May 10 gig at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

Currently working on material for his tenth album with producer Joe Chiccarelli, the celebrated miserablist may treat fans with Morrissey tickets to several new tracks. But the setlist for last year’s run of fulfilled shows also covered everything from his 1988 solo debut Viva Hate (“Everyday Is Like Sunday”) to 2009’s last studio effort, Years Of Refusal (“One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell”), alongside a number of The Smiths classics (“Meat Is Murder,” “The Boy With The Thorn In His Side,” “That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore”).

Morrissey tickets are currently unavailable on TicketIQ but be sure to keep checking back for the latest updates on what is bound to be one of 2014’s most eventful tours.
