Lady Gaga Denied Permit to Perform On Doritos Stage At SXSW

Lady Gaga has been declined a permit to play at the Doritos stage at this year’s South by Southwest Festival. The city of Austin cited public safety concerns when shooting down a proposed Gaga performance in the parking lot of Carmelo’s Italian Restaurant.

SXSW tickets have been in high demand and the festival has been steadily growing since its inception in 1987, but even with the growing amount of stages, not all are equipped enough to handle some of the biggest artists in music. The safety concerns for the proposed performance stem from the amount of people Gaga would attract for a concert, an amount the parking lot simply can’t hold.

Just because this proposal was denied does not mean Lady Gaga won’t be performing at SXSW at all. It’s likely Gaga and festival organizers will look for a larger venue in Austin to fit the pop star and all the Little Monsters safely.

The festival takes place March 11-16, about two months before Gaga officially kicks off her ARTPOP Ball Tour. The first official date of the tour is May 4 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. Before the official start of the tour, Gaga will play seven shows from March 28 to April 7 at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. The average price for Lady Gaga tickets on the secondary market for the Roseland shows is currently $329.32. The average secondary market price for the ARTPOP Ball dates is $229.36.
