Lorde, Foster The People & The National Headline 2014 Ottawa Folk Festival

May 15, 2014

Hoping to beat last year’s tally of over 40,000 Ottawa Folk Festival tickets sold, organisers of the 2014 five-day celebration have managed to attract one of the most eclectic line-ups in its 20-year history.

Returning to the spectacular Hog’s Back Park, the sister festival to Ottawa Bluesfest will kick off with a preview night on Friday September 10 with indie-pop trio Foster The People, She & Him’s M. Ward and New Jersey quintet Blues Traveler all confirmed to open the show.

Grammy-winning New Zealander Lorde will then top the bill on Saturday Sept 11, ahead of folk-rock singer-songwriter Serena Ryder, California duo The Milk Carton Kids and bluegrass outfit Dailey & Vincent, with The Noisy Locomotive, The Strain, Almoraima, COIG, Chrissy Crowley and Sprag Sessions also scheduled to appear.

Chart-topping rapper J. Cole, children’s entertainers The Wiggles and Portland ensemble Black Prairie will then take to the stage on the Sunday before The National’s headline slot, as will Canadian artists Wake Owl, NQ Arbuckle, Jill Zmud, Pony Girl, High Waters and Craig Cardiff.

The recently reformed Neutral Milk Hotel take center stage on the Monday with country rock veterans Blue Rodeo, primitive blues troubadour Seasick Steve and British guitarist Simon Townshend also performing in addition to Adam Cohen, The Strumbellas, Fred Penner, Young & Sick, Bobby Bazini, Elephant Revival, Lora Bidner, Made Noon, Poor Old Shine, Saturnfly and The Mellotones.

While alongside soul singer Joss Stone, Philadelphia shoegazers The War On Drugs and Francophone chanteuse Coeur de Pirate, those with Ottawa Folk Festival tickets can also enjoy performances from Ed Kowalczyk, Asleep at the Wheel, Sun Kill Moon, The Lone Bellow, The Wooden Sky, The Bros. Landreth, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Matt ‘Guitar’ Murphy, Spencer Scharf, The Cardboard Crowns, The Carper Family and The Wicked Mercy on the Tuesday before The Gaslight Anthem help draw the festival to a close.
