Pixies Announce North American Fall Tour
May 6, 2014
Fresh from releasing their first new album in 23 years, one of the alt-rock scene’s true pioneers have announced they will return to the North American live stage this fall with the release of Pixies tickets for an 11-date tour.
The Boston quartet, who dropped their long-awaited fifth studio effort, Indie Cindy, last week, will first perform a four-night stand at the Sydney Opera House at the end of May before heading over to Europe for various festival sets at the likes of the UK’s Glastonbury, Portugal’s Primavera Sound and France’s Les Eurorockeenes.
Following a one-off date in Tokyo, Frank Black and co. will then return to their homeland for a second batch of 2014 dates, kicking off at San Diego’s Humphreys on September 27 and winding up at Madison’s Orpheum Theatre on October 12.
Pixies tickets are currently only available on TicketIQ for the September 28 gig at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl – where support will be provided by singer-songwriter Cat Power and gypsy-folk collective Gogol Bordello – with the get-in price currently listed at $40 and the average price at $159. But with further Pixies tickets expected to hit the market any time soon, be sure to keep checking back for the latest updates.
Fans with Pixies tickets should expect to hear the majority of their latest record, which combines all the songs from their last three E.P.s, alongside an opening slot from British garage-rock duo Royal Blood.
But the band’s recent shows have also included material from their late 80s/early 90s back catalogue including influential debut album Surfer Rosa (“Bone Machine,” “Something Against You”), their first US chart entry Doolittle (“Here Comes Your Man,” “La La Love You”) and their original swansong Trompe La Monde (“Motorway To Roswell,” “Planet Of Sound”) as well as covers of The Jesus & Mary Chain’s “Head On” and David Lynch’s “In Heaven (Lady In The Radiator Song).”
