This season, for the first time in college football history, there will be a playoff to determine the national champion. After years of the BCS system and the top two ranked schools automatically facing each other in the BCS National Championship Game, a four team playoff has been implemented starting this season. The College Football Playoffs will be played in some of the biggest bowl games with six bowl games participating in a three-year rotation as the College Football Playoff Semifinals. For the 2014 season, those bowl games will be the Sugar and Rose Bowls with the winner of each meeting in a separate College Football Championship Game.

The bowls which will be the semifinal games this year are the Sugar and Rose Bowls. The Sugar Bowl will host the No. 1 and No. 4 schools in the College Football Playoff rankings. The current average price for the Sugar Bowl is $456.92 with a get-in price of $87 on the secondary market. With the Sugar Bowl not being one of the main bowls in the BCS over the past few years, making it a semifinal has caused secondary market prices to be the most expensive for the game since at least 2010.
