Orlando City SC To Partner With Walt Disney World Resort

March 6, 2015

MLS expansion team Orlando City SC will play its first official game on Sunday, and sponsors continue to pile up. On Thursday, the Lions announced a partnership with the World Disney World Resort. The two organizations have a notable past; from 2010-2014, the Lions called the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Bay Lake its home stadium, which is owned by the illustrious resort.

Under the new contractual partnership, the Walt Disney World Resort will become the official theme park and resort destination of Orlando City SC. Many of Disney’s brother companies also get a piece of the action – Disney Vacation Club will be the team’s official vacation club and Disney Cruise Lines will be, you guessed it, the official cruise line of the Lions.

In addition, Disney will also have notable presence in the team’s new stadium at the Citrus Bowl. Orlando City SC will move into the brand new Orlando City Stadium next year, where Disney ads and logos will also be ever-present.

Orlando City SC takes on New York City FC at the Citrus Bowl this Sunday, who also sets to make its MLS debut this weekend. The expansion teams mark the biggest additions to the MLS since beginning a league-wide rebranding stage in 2013.
