2016 World Series Tickets Are Most Expensive Since at Least 2010

The Cleveland Indians will face the Chicago Cubs in the 2016 World Series, and it will cost a whole lot of cash to see the two long-suffering teams battle it out this season. With the two franchises combining for a 176-year title drought, World Series tickets on TicketIQ will be the most expensive since at least 2010, when the company began collecting resale ticket data.

As it stands now, the average resale price for 2016 World Series tickets is $4,714.76 across the seven-game series. Each game is averaging over $2,000, with Game 1 in Cleveland on Tuesday night being the least expensive to attend ($2,118.31 avg./$879 get-in price). Indians World Series tickets at Progressive Field are averaging $3,164.44 over Games 1, 2 and possible Games 6 and 7.

The series moves to Chicago for Games 3-5 beginning Friday night, and prices will skyrocket for Cubs World Series tickets at Wrigley Field. The average resale price for tickets on the North Side of Chicago is currently $6,781.84, making the Cubs the most expensive World Series team to watch this decade. Both the Cubs and Indians surpass the 2010 San Francisco Giants for that honor, who previously owned the most expensive tickets at $1,660.96 over their two home games against the Texas Rangers.

The Cubs last reached the Fall Classic in 1945 but ultimately fell to the Detroit Tigers in seven games. They won their last World Series title in 1908 against the Tigers. The Indians return to the World Series for the first time since 1997 and are just four wins removed from their first championship since 1948, when they took down the Boston Braves in six games.
