2018 Red Sox World Series Tickets Dropping Ahead of Game 1, Still 6th Most Expensive This Decade

Since breaking the Curse of the Bambino in 2004, the Boston Red Sox have won three World Series.  Given the gluttony of four AL pennants in 15 years, you might think that Bostonians would have a "been there, done that" attitude. But the appetite for World Series tickets is healthy, and, according to secondary ticket marketplace TicketIQ.com, the current average asking price of $1,627 ranks tied for 6th most expensive this decade.  In the 48 hours since the Dodgers clinched their spot, however, prices at Fenway park are down 13%, and there are tickets available for game under for under $400.

When the World Series begins at Boston's Fenway Park, the Red Sox will play the Dodgers in the Fall Classic for the second time in their history.  It's been 102 years since the Dodgers, then knows as the Brooklyn Robins, played a World Series in Boston. It took place that Braves field and featured heroics by a young Casey Stengal and Babe Ruth. The Red Sox won that series 4-1, behind a 13-inning, Game 2 performance from the Babe himself.  Since then, The Dodgers have won six World Series, the last coming in 1988. They came very close to breaking the 29-year drought last year, but lost to Houston in the World Series game seven at Dodgers Stadium.

As the below chart shows, that was 3rd most expensive World Series TicketIQ has tracked since 2010, only topped by 2016 at Wrigley Field when the Chicago Cubs snapped the longest World Series drought in baseball, winning for the first time since 1908, and the Astros, who won their first-ever World Series title against the Dodgers. This year, prices are significantly cheaper at Dodgers Stadium, in part because there's no possibility of a game 6 or 7.

Boston's average asking price is one of two Fenway Park World Series tickets in the Top 10 since 2011, when TicketIQ.com began tracking data. The $1,613 average asking price in 2013, when the Red Sox won their third championship in 10 years, ranks No. 10.

For the 2018 World Series, the cheapest two games at Fenway Park are currently Games 1 and 2, as the below chart shows in more detail.  Not surprisingly, the priciest game in Boston is the if-needed Game 7.
