Hamilton Set To Take The Show On The Road For 20-City Tour

The hottest show on Broadway may soon be coming to a theater near you. And if you live in Puerto Rico, you won’t just get the ‘Best of Broadway’ traveling cast – you’ll get Lin-Manuel Miranda himself in the leading role.

Hamilton, which commanded $1,537 per ticket on Broadway when Miranda starred, announced a 20-city tour later this year and into 2019. The tour will wrap up in San Juan, Jan. 8-27, 2019, with Miranda on stage. Proceeds from that show are earmarked to help Puerto Rico as it continues to recover from Hurricane Maria.

According to TicketIQ.com data, the average cost of a ticket since Miranda left the cast on July 9, 2016 is $1,019 in New York. The price for shows in other cities has been considerably cheaper, even with Mirdana in the cast – an average of $877.25 in San Francisco, $696.18 in Los Angeles and $439.51 in Chicago.

The Tony Award-winning musical, which debuted on Broadway on Jan. 20, 2015, incorporates a variety of musical styles including hip-hop, rhythm and blues and traditional show-style tunes into the telling of the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton. The show has set multiple box-office records, including becoming the first show to gross more than $3 million in a single week in New York, when it grossed $3.3 million for an eight-show week in November 2016.

Hamilton is still on Broadway through August 19 and is playing in London (through July 28), Chicago (through September 2) and Tempe, Ariz. (through Feb 25). It recently completed a run in San Diego.

Among the other cities set for the touring show are: Seattle, Denver, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Washington DC, and Boston.
