2018 NHL Playoff Tickets: Looking at 1st Round Prices On The Secondary Market

The 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs are already full of surprises – and only one round of games has been played. But biggest suprise, though, is in the field. The Vegas Golden Knights, winners of the Pacific Division, will become the first expansion team to try for a Stanley Cup in its debut season. Vegas joins 15 other teams that will make a run for the Cup over the next two months.

The premiere matchup in the Eastern Conference is certainly Boston-Toronto, a series that will reprise the 2013 playoff stunner when the Bruins rallied from three goals down to beat the Maple Leafs and eliminate them from the playoffs. That series starts Thursday in Toronto. Among the other matchups, the Atlantic Division champs Tampa Bay play New Jersey, the Metropolitan champs Washington play Columbus, and in a series that started with a blowout on Wednesday, defending champion Pittsburgh plays Philadelphia. The Pens crushed the Flyers, 7-0, in Game 1.

In the West, the story of the season has been the Golden Knights, and many expect that story to continue deep into the playoffs. Vegas got off to a good start, shutting out Los Angeles, 1-0, in Game 1 on Wednesday. While the Golden Knights are generating lots of interest, the series that has fans least excited is San Jose-Anaheim, and first-round ticket prices hovering around $100 reflect that. Heavily favored to win it all, Nashville will play in a somewhat lopsided first round against Colorado while Winnipeg slipped past Minnesota, 3-2, in Game 1 to start its chase for the Cup.

With plenty of action to come, TicketIQ.com can help fans with first-round 2018 NHL Playoff tickets. Below is a look at ticket data and matchups for the first round.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Tampa Bay Lightning (A1) vs. New Jersey Devils (WC2) - Avg Price: $256 | Cheapest Game in Tampa Bay: Game 1, $191 |  Cheapest Game in New Jersey: Game 3, $275

Tampa Bay won the Atlantic Division and locked up a playoff spot early in the month, while New Jersey barely got into the post season, finishing just one point ahead of the Florida Panthers to snatch the last Eastern Conference wild-card spot. But don’t discount the Devils. Though the matchup looks lopsided, with the Lightning heavy favorites and the Devils one of the weakest teams in the playoffs, the Devils swept the season series.

  • Game 1: Thursday, April 12, 7pm: Devils @ Lightning
  • Game 2: Saturday, April 14, 3pm: Devils @ Lightning
  • Game 3: Monday, April 16, 7:30pm: Lightning @ Devils
  • Game 4: Wednesday, April 18, 7:30pm: Lightning @ Devils

Boston Bruins (A2) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (A3) - Avg Price: $457 | Cheapest Game in Boston: Game 1, $185 | Cheapest Game in Toronto: $657

The Bruins, who won 50 games during the regular season and were second to the Lightning in the Atlantic Division, will open the series without starting center Riley Nash, who has missed five games since taking a puck to the head in late March. The Bruins are still favored in this series. And who can forget the last time these two teams met in the playoffs? It was 2013, when Boston scored three late goals to force overtime and then beat Toronto in Game 7 of the first round.

  • Game 1: Thursday, April 12, 7pm: Maple Leafs @ Bruins
  • Game 2: Saturday, April 14, 8pm: Maple Leafs @ Bruins
  • Game 3: Monday, April 16, 7pm: Bruins @ Maple Leafs
  • Game 4: Thursday, April 19, 7pm: Bruins @ Maple Leafs

  • *Game 6: Monday, April 23, TBD: Bruins @ Maple Leafs
  • *Game 7: Wednesday, April 25, TBD: Maple Leafs @ Bruins

Washington Capitals (M1) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (WC1) - Avg Price:  $229 | Cheapest Game in Washington: Game 1, $127 | Cheapest Game in Columbus: Game 4, $115

Meeting for the first time in the playoffs, the Capitals won the Metropolitan Division and are making their 10th playoff appearance in 11 years. The Blue Jackets? Well, they were lucky to get into the post season after finishing fourth in the Metropolitan and losing their last two. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be a close series and the winner gets the ultimate prize – likely a shot at the Penguins, who have previously wreaked post-season havoc on both franchises.

  • Game 1: Thursday, April 12, 7:30pm: Blue Jackets @ Capitals
  • Game 2: Sunday, April 15, 7:30pm: Blue Jackets @ Capitals
  • Game 3: Tuesday, April 17, 7:30pm: Capitals @ Blue Jackets
  • Game 4: Thursday, April 19, 7:30pm: Capitals @ Blue Jackets
  • *Game 5: Saturday, April 21, TBD: Blue Jackets @ Capitals
  • *Game 6: Monday, April 23, TBD: Capitals @ Blue Jackets
  • *Game 7: Wednesday, April 25, TBD: Blue Jackets @ Capitals

Pittsburgh Penguins (M2) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (M3) - Avg Price: $303 | Cheapest Game in Pittsburgh: Game 5, $188 | Cheapest Game in Philadelphia: Game 4, $207

This cross-state rivalry hasn’t been on the playoff stage since 2012, and while the Penguins have had more recent success, the Flyers hold a 4-2 post-season advantage. If Wednesday’s Game 1 was any indication, the Pens will creep closer to evening that post-season meeting record. Pittsburgh trampled Philadelphia, 7-0. The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins finished second in the Metropolitan with the Flyers just two points behind. The Battle of Pennsylvania, as the rivalry is known, began in 1967 when both teams entered the NHL in the “Next Six” expansion wave. Both have had enormous success through the years.

  • Game 1: Wednesday, April 11, 7pm: Flyers @ Penguins
  • Game 2: Friday, April 13, 7pm: Flyers @ Penguins
  • Game 3: Sunday, April 15, 3pm: Penguins @ Flyers
  • Game 4: Wednesday, April 18, 7pm: Penguins @ Flyers
  • *Game 5: Friday, April 20, TBD: Flyers @ Penguins
  • *Game 6: Sunday, April 22, TBD: Penguins @ Flyers
  • *Game 7: Tuesday, April 24, TBD: Flyers @ Penguins

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Nashville Predators (C1) vs. Colorado Avalanche (WC2) - Avg Price: $271 | Cheapest Game in Nashville: Game 1, $340 | Cheapest Game in Colorado: Game 4, $125

The overall favorite to represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Predators reached the final for the first time in franchise history last season. Nashville followed up that performance with a 53-win season and 118 points – good enough to not just win the Central Division, but to post the best record in the league. This is a lopsided matchup no matter how you look at it. Nashville’s biggest advantages will be on defense, and knowing not to underestimate the No. 8 seed. After all, the Preds were just that in 2016-17, when they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

  • Game 1: Thursday, April 12, 9:30pm: Avalanche @ Predators
  • Game 2: Saturday, April 14, 3pm: Avalanche @ Predators
  • Game 3: Monday, April 16, 10pm: Predators @ Avalanche
  • Game 4: Wednesday, April 18, 10pm Predators @ Avalanche
  • *Game 5: Friday, April 20, TBD: Avalanche @ Predators
  • *Game 6: Sunday, April 22, TBD: Predators @ Avalanche
  • *Game 7: Tuesday, April 24, TBD: Avalanche @ Predators

Winnipeg Jets (C2) vs. Minnesota Wild (C3) - Avg Price: $388 | Cheapest Game in Winnipeg: Game 5, $627 | Cheapest Game in Minnesota: Game 6, $357

While the Jets and Wild finished 2-3 in the Central Division, this series won’t be that close. Winnipeg certainly has the momentum – it’s on a six-game win streak, including Wednesday’s 3-2 Game 1 victory. After losing again in the first round last season, there’s been little enthusiasm around the Wild this season while the Jets are making their first playoff appearance since 1996, and ticket prices in Winnipeg reflect just how excited Canada’s “Gateway to the West” really is.

  • Game 1: Wednesday, April 11, 7pm: Wild @ Jets
  • Game 2: Friday, April 13, 7:30pm: Wild @ Jets
  • Game 3: Sunday, April 15, 7pm: Jets @ Wild
  • Game 4: Tuesday, April 17, 8pm: Jets @ Wild
  • *Game 5: Friday, April 20, TBD: Wild @ Jets
  • *Game 6: Sunday, April 22, TBD: Jets @ Wild
  • *Game 7: Wednesday, April 25, TBD: Wild @ Jets

Vegas Golden Knights (P1) vs. Los Angeles Kings (WC1) - Avg Price: $309 | Cheapest Game in Vegas: Game 5, $449 | Cheapest Game in Los Angeles: Game 4, $171

A year ago, no one would have predicted that the Golden Knights would be here. And they’re not just in the playoffs; the NHL’s latest expansion team won the Pacific Division, setting all kinds of expansion-team records, not just in hockey, but across all professional sports. They added to the lore on Wednesday night, shutting out the Kings, 1-0, in Game 1. The Kings, meanwhile, had a great start to the decade under Darryl Sutter, but missed the playoffs in two of the last three years. They haven’t quite re-emerged as a contender, but getting back into the post season is a first step.

  • Game 1: Wednesday, April 11, 10pm: Kings @ Golden Knights
  • Game 2: Friday, April 13, 10pm: Kings @ Golden Knights
  • Game 3: Sunday, April 15, 10:30pm: Golden Knights @ Kings
  • Game 4: Tuesday, April 17, 10:30pm: Golden Knights @ Kings
  • *Game 5: Thursday, April 19, 10pm: Kings @ Golden Knights
  • *Game 6: Saturday, April 21, TBD: Golden Knights @ Kings
  • *Game 7: Monday, April 23, TBD: Kings @ Golden Knights

Anaheim Ducks (P2) vs. San Jose Sharks (P3) - Avg Price: $237 | Cheapest Game in Anaheim: Game 1, $106 | Cheapest Game in San Jose: Game 3, $105

This all-California playoff series is just the second time the Ducks and Sharks will meet in the playoffs – the last time was in 2009, when Anaheim knocked San Jose out in the first round. The teams finished 2-3 in the Pacific Division, with just one point separating them. The Sharks had been hoping to get center Joe Thornton back from a knee injury that has kept him on the bench for 35 games, but the team announced earlier this week that he wouldn’t play. With or without Thornton, these teams are evenly matched.

  • Game 1: Thursday, April 12, 10:30pm: Sharks @ Ducks
  • Game 2: Saturday, April 14, 10:30pm: Sharks @ Ducks
  • Game 3: Monday, April 16, 10:30pm: Ducks @ Sharks
  • Game 4: Wednesday, April 18, 10:30pm: Ducks @ Sharks
  • *Game 5: Friday, April 20, TBD: Sharks @ Ducks
  • *Game 6: Sunday, April 22, TBD: Ducks @ Sharks
  • *Game 7: Tuesday, April 24, TBD: Sharks @ Ducks
