Show Details & Reviews
American Buffalo is the story of two small-time hustlers chasing the American dream. Written by David Mamet, the play is about loyalty and greed. This version of American Buffalo features Emmy winner Laurence Fishburne, Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell and Emmy winner Darren Criss. Tony Award winner Neil Pepe will direct.
The show was last performed in London’s West End from April 17-June 27, 2015, with Daniel Evans as the director and starring John Goodman as Donny, Damian Lewis as Teach, and Tom Sturridge as Bobby. American Buffalo originally debuted at the Goodman Theater Stage II in 1975.
The 2015 London run played to great reviews. From the Hollywood Reporter: "The dialogue, of course, is terrific and a gift to actors, while its exploration of greed, strained loyalties and busted American dreams is timeless, even with the many references to the recession-riddled period in which it was written. Most of all perhaps, the 1975 play has a sort of crystalline clarity of structure, an austerity despite the junk-shop clutter, that evokes the bleakness of Samuel Beckett."
