Electric Zoo Is Coming Back To New York City

It’s official: Electric Zoo is coming back to New York City. While the festival has taken place in NYC’s Randall’s Island every year since 2009, its future was in doubt following the drug-related deaths of two festival attendees last year. However, festival organizers have announced that the event is back on for 2014 over Labor Day weekend August 29-31, with Electric Zoo tickets going on sale April 29.

While last year featured the largest lineup in the festival’s history, it is hard to characterize the 2013 festival as anything short of a disaster. In addition to the two MDMA-related deaths, four additional people were hospitalized and 31 were arrested, resulting in the cancellation of the festival’s third day.

As a result, this year’s festival will feature enhanced security measures including drug-sniffing dogs and undercover police officers with backgrounds in narcotics. In addition, all festival attendees will be required to watch an anti-drug public service announcement before their wristbands can be activated to allow entry into the festival grounds.

Situated on 27 acres of open space along the East River between Upper Manhattan, Queens, and The Bronx, Randall’s Island has seen Electric Zoo grow since its 2009 inception as a two-day event held over Labor Day weekend. That year’s event was headlined by David Guetta, Deadmau5, and Armin Van Buuren, with the 2010 edition featuring Moby, Avicii, Afrojack, and Bassnectar.

Due to the increasing popularity of Electric Zoo, the festival was expanded in 2011 as a three-day affair featuring some of the biggest names in electronic music including Tiesto, Skrillex, and Calvin Harris. In 2012, acts like Benny Benassi, Steve Aoki, Pretty Lights, and Knife Party joined the party.

While no acts have yet been announced for the 2014 festival, it is expected to be similar to last year’s lineup, which featured a variety of big names from Tiesto and David Guetta to up-and-coming talent such as Madeon and Bro Safari.

Also this year, Electric Zoo will be held in Mexico for the first time, taking place May 3-4 in Mexico City’s Arena Ciudad de Mexico featuring Skrillex, Knife Party, Dillon Francis, and Hardwell.

Electric Zoo tickets for the New York festival go on sale April 29 at a special presale rate of $289, after which general ticket sales will commence at a rate of $369.

Here is the official Electric Zoo Lineup:

Kaskade, Zedd, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Knife Party, Skrillex and Diplo’s Jack U, Chase and Status, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, Nervo, Benny Benassi, Gesaffelstein, Jamie xx, Zeds Dead, Wolfgang Gartner, Dubfire, Clockwork, Kill the Noise, Showtek, The Bingo Players, Sub Focus, and Zomboy, among others.
