The San Diego Padres had the busiest offseason in franchise history. New general manager AJ Preller did not waste any time making his mark on his new ball club. San Diego traded for Justin Upton, Matt Kemp, and Wil Myers while signing James Shields to anchor his rotation. The threesome of Upton, Kemp, and Myers adds some much needed power to San Diego’s lineup, but the offensive gains may be offset by their deficiencies on defense. To date, San Diego is 7-8 in Cactus League play. Kemp, Upton, and Myers each have two home runs in limited at-bats. Shields is 1-1 in three starts with ten strikeouts over seven innings.

San Diego will play 13 home games during April. On TicketIQ, tickets on the Padres schedule during April have an average price of $70.14 on the secondary market. Opening Day, which features an intriguing matchup against San Francisco on April 9th, features the highest ticket prices during April. The average ticket price for Padres Opening Day tickets is $120.06 while the get-in price is $41. The next most expensive home game during April features a matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 25th. The average ticket price for this matchup is $87.90 while the get-in price is $24. The least expensive home game during April features a matchup against Houston on April 29th. The average ticket price for this matchup is $43 while the get-in price is $9.

Credit Preller for taking risks during the offseason. San Diego hasn’t made the playoffs in over a decade, so changes needed to be made to this roster. While pundits are split on whether San Diego has a playoff-caliber roster, the new additions will certain make things interesting in the National League West. Expect San Diego to contend for a playoff spot during 2015.
