The Bay Bridge Rivalry will be renewed on July 24th when the San Francisco Giants host the Oakland A’s. The San Francisco Giants (49-43) currently sit in second place of the National League West division. San Francisco is one of the hottest teams in baseball, winners of six straight games. Buster Posey is having a career year and currently paces the team in batting average (.317), home runs (14), RBIs (63), and on-base percentage (.385). Second baseman, Joe Panik has been a nice surprise. Panik currently leads the team in hits (107) and boasts an impressive .315 batting average. Madison Bumgarner continues to anchor the rotation and leads the team in wins (10), ERA (3.27), and strikeouts (124). San Francisco sits just three games behind Los Angeles for the division lead, but as we’ve seen in prior years, the Giants are dangerous once the calendar turns to October.

While San Francisco has been one of the better teams in the National League, Oakland’s record has not been indicative of its play. Oakland’s run differential (+53) is the fourth best mark in the American League, but Oakland currently sits in fourth place in the American League West. Oakland has the best team ERA (3.35) in the American League and currently sits fifth in runs scored. Luck hasn’t been on Oakland’s side, but fans are hoping things change as the trade deadline approaches.
