Lady Gaga, One Direction & Justin Bieber Highlight The '13 Concert Schedule at Staples Center
January 20, 2013
Staples Center has rapidly become one of America’s most popular live venues since its opening in 1999. Hosting 250 events to an audience of over four million each year, the 20,000-seat arena has staged everything from the Democratic National Convention to the World Figure Skating Championships during its 14-years. Staples Center is also home to the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, the NHL Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks.
LA's $375 million dollar venue has also hosted it's share of marquee concerts. Mariah Carey returned to the live circuit at Staples Center in 2000, the Grammy Awards have called Staples home since 2003, and in 2009 it was home to the rehearsals for Michael Jackson’s 'This Is It' tour. Alongside headline shows from Madonna, Carrie Underwood, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lady Antebellum, last year also saw the MTV Video Music Awards, and the Spanish-language festival Calibash visit its 950,000 square feet.
Kicking off the 2013 concert schedule at Staples is Lady Gaga. She rides her mammoth 'Born This Way Ball' tour into town on January 20th and 21st. There are still over 1000 Lady Gaga tickets remain on TicketIQ for both dates with an average price of $203 and $52 to get in the door for the first night, and $209/$49 for the second.
Famed for their extravagant displays of lasers and pyrotechnics, Muse will perform three shows at Staples on January 23rd ($150 avg), 24th ($269), and 26th ($273). There are currently around 700 Muse tickets still remaining for each gig with get-in prices right around $70. Following Muse, rock and roll legends, The Who, will rock Staples on the 30th for the second leg of their Quadrophenia tour. The Who tickets are averaging around $500 per seat, but affordable tickets can still be had with a get in price for just $34.
Pink is the sole music artist to grace the Staples Center stage in February as she eases into her 'The Truth About Love' tour on the 16th. Tickets for the show are currently averaging over $1000 with a get-in-the-door price of $170. Things get much busier in March when Morrissey, Alicia Keys and Miguel, and Maroon 5 all make a stop at Staples. There are currently 1200 Morrissey tickets still waiting to be snapped up on TicketIQ for the indie icon’s date on the March 1st with prices averaging $412/seat. There are twice that amount of tickets for to see Alicia Keys and Miguel perform on the 12th averaging $332. Finally, over 1100+ Maroon 5 tickets remain for their concert on March 15th where they will be performing with Owl City and Neon Trees.
Already you can see the diversity of bands performing at Staples Center and that trend continues as three very different acts then stop off at the venue with Vicente Fernandez, Rihanna & ASAP Rocky, and Bon Jovi all hitting the Staples Center stage. Currently, there are less than 1000 Rihanna tickets left for her appearance with ASAP Rocky on April 8th and nearly 3000 Bon Jovi tickets still available for one of the final North American dates on his 'Because We Can' world tour on April 19th.
Two of the biggest teen-pop phenomena of the 21st Century then arrive during the summer. First, Justin Bieber’s 'Believe' tour returns to the Staples Center for a further two shows on June 24th and 25th. Overall, there are still more than 6000 Justin Bieber tickets still on sale with get-in prices of $77 and $80.
Expect the screams to be just as loud when that other teen-pop sensation, One Direction, concludes the North American leg of their 117-show world tour. 1D has four dates between August 7th and 10th with over 1000 One Direction tickets remainining on TicketIQ for each show, and 3000 for their final gig. The average price for all four shows is $512, though some tickets can be had for as low as $90.
Having scored the highest first-week record sales in over a decade with 'Red', Taylor Swift tickets for her accompanying tour are inevitably in high demand. But there are still thousands left for her two shows alongside Ed Sheeran on August 19th and 20th, with tickets as low as $94 and $83. Clearly there are tons of great shows to see in the coming months at Staples.
