Bad Company & Lynyrd Skynyrd Both Celebrate 40th Anniversaries With Joint Tour

70's rock legends’ 40th anniversaries appear to be like buses – you wait ages for one and then two come along at once. As with the release of Bad Company and Lynyrd Skynyrd tickets for a co-headlining 13-date tour, fans of classic rock now have the opportunity to join in with a rather special double celebration.

Indeed, featuring Free lead vocalist Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke alongside Mott The Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, supergroup Bad Company will be commemorating their formation in 1973, the same year that Southern rock stalwarts Lynyrd Skynyrd released their first studio effort, Pronounced ‘Leh-nerd ‘Skin-‘nerd.

Kicking off at Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre on June 20th with an average price of $80 (compared to a tour average of $178), the long-time counterparts will then take in the likes of Spring’s The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on July 11th ($47/$348) and Noblesville’s Klipsch Music Center on July 20th ($43/$210) before concluding the tour at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on Jul 27 ($33/$181).

Although only a handful remain for the opening date and next-night performance at Ridgefield’s Sleep Country Amphitheatre on June 21th ($55/$111), there are plenty of Bad Company & Lynyrd Skynyrd tickets still available for the other ten shows. Currently, the July 24th concert at Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center features the lowest get-in price at $27 (average price $174), with the July 23rd gig at Clarkston’s DTE Energy Music Theatre the cheapest average price at $67 (get-in price $34).

Joined by former Heart guitarist Howard Leese and Rodgers’ regular touring bassist Todd Ronning, the tour will be Bad Company’s first series of US dates since 2001 and their first performance together since 2010 where they rattled through hits including their 1974 US Top 5 single, “Can’t Get Enough,” and radio staples “Good Lovin’ Gone Bad,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love” and “Young Blood.”

Lynyrd Skynyrd, meanwhile, have remained a fully-functioning outfit since their 1987 reunion, scoring a Billboard Top 20 hit as recently as 2012 with Last Of A Dyin’ Breed, which of course was named in honour of the last surviving member of their original line-up, Gary Rossington.

While the likes of Blackfoot frontman Rickey Medlocke, P-funk veteran Peter Keys and the late Ronnie Van Zant’s younger brother, Johnny, also appeared together on a joint tour alongside ZZ Top and the Doobie Brothers back in 2011 where they performed their signature hit, “Sweet Home Alabama,” in addition to classic singles, “Free Bird,” “What’s Your Name” and “Saturday Night Special.”

As if two legendary bands on the same bill wasn’t already enough, Kentucky quintet Black Stone Cherry have also been confirmed as support act, meaning fans with Bad Company and Lynyrd Skynyrd tickets should expect quite the Southern rock party.
