From boyband teen idols to post-grunge chart-toppers to modern Motown legends, some of the biggest music acts of the 90s are to jump on the nostalgia bandwagon later this year with a series of collaborative tours designed to relive the decade they ruled the world.
Having already hooked up with Backstreet Boys on a joint album and tour last year, New Kids On The Block have joined forces with another late 90s vocal harmony group, 98°, and Billboard’s fourth most successful act of the 90s, Boyz II Men, for The Package Tour. With an overall average price of $197, there are thousands of The Package Tour tickets waiting to be snapped up, with the June 30 date at Saint Louis’ Scottrade Center the lowest get-in price at just $15 (average $142) and the August 2 gig at Buffalo’s First Niagara Center the cheapest average price at $124 (get-in $51).
Two juggernauts of the alt-rock scene, Matchbox Twenty and Goo Goo Dolls, will also head out on the road together for a 32-date summer tour to promote their respective comeback albums, North and Magnetic. Alongside a brief trip to Canada at Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre on June 27 ($62/$170), the bands will also take in the likes of Clarkston’s DTE Energy Music Theatre on July 6 ($47/$78) and Dallas’ Gexa Energy Pavilion on July 31 ($49/$211) before finishing up at Mansfield’s Comcast Center on August 18 ($57/$175). The lowest get-in price for Matchbox Twenty & Goo Goo Dolls tickets is $38 (average $131) for the August 8 show at Virginia Beach’s Farm Bureau Live with the cheapest average price $67 (get-in $50) for the July 9 concert at Maryland Heights’ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
The Mark McGrath & Friends Cruise might have been cancelled but Smash Mouth, Gin Blossoms and Vertical Horizon will still team up with Sugar Ray for the Under The Sun tour, with tickets for the shows at Saratoga’s Mountain Winery on July 11 ($203/$203), Clarkston’s DTE Energy Music Theatre on July 21 ($105/$166), the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom on August 1 ($101/$101) and the North Charleston Coliseum on August 9 ($81/$240) still available with an average price of $170.
After paying a comical tribute to the Mayan prophecy with last year’s Last Summer On Earth tour, Barenaked Ladies have recruited another array of similar quirky indie-rock outfits for their follow-up tour, with Ben Folds Five and Guster joining comedian Boothby Graffoe for a series of shows across June and July. With an average price of $188, there are hundreds of Barenaked Ladies tickets remaining with the June 22 performance at the Santa Barbara Bowl the lowest get-in price at $59 (average $128) and the July 25 gig at Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Uptown Amphitheatre the cheapest average price at $77 (get-in $65).
Finally, after a successful first showing last year, the Summerland tour looks like it could become an annual event with the news that Everclear, Live, Filter and Sponge are to hit more than 30 U.S. cities together this summer, with Summerland tickets currently priced at an overall average of $154. Availability is much more limited here with only a handful of Summerland tickets remaining for nine shows, with the June 21 date at Columbus’ Lifestyles Communities Pavilion both the lowest get-in and average price at $51 and $63 respectively.
