Cincinnati Reds Season Preview

February 21, 2014

The Cincinnati Reds won one of the two Wild Card spots in the National League a season ago only to be thoroughly beaten in a one game playoff by their NL Central rival the Pittsburgh Pirates, who ended the longest playoff drought in professional sports when they made the playoffs for the first time in 21 years. This years Reds team is going to be without their leadoff man from 2013 Shin-Soo Choo who signed away in free agency as expected as well as pitcher Bronson Arroyo who also has a new team. While Choo was a very integral part of this Cincinnati Red teams success in the past it is not as big of a blow as it would’ve been for other teams to lose the solid outfielder as the Reds have been built on their pitching.

The Reds rotation consistently ranks among the best in the National League and last season led the league in strikeout while maintaining 3.38 ERA, good enough for the the fourth best in the entire NL. Cincinnati knew that this is their strength which is why they decided to lock up Homer Bailey this offseason when they inked the 27 year old to a six year $105 million deal that will see in stay in Cincy through 2019. As good as Bailey has been earning 11 wins with just under 200 strikeouts last season, he only projects to be the Reds third best starter in 2014. Leading the Reds rotation is Johnny Cueto and Mat Latos who will be relied upon to be the aces of the staff with Mike Leake and Tony Cingrani rounding out the final two spots in the rotation and Aroldis Chapman continuing his role as the Closer.

Reds tickets are averaging $83 at home this season with Opening Day being the most expensive of the season at an average cost of $228 and a Get-in of $96. The success the Cincinnati Reds enjoy in 2014 will fall upon this group of men to lead them back into the playoffs once again so be sure to get you Cincinnati Reds tickets today.
