An Update on Red Sox Tickets for Derek Jeter's Finale

February 24, 2014

As many are well aware, Derek Jeter announced via Facebook on February 12th that he is retiring after the 2014 season. With that news, Yankees fans have fervently been attempting to scoop up some tickets for his final home game at Yankee Stadium on September 25th against the Baltimore Orioles. However, another game that has received a significant increase in ticket price is what could be his final game, to be played at none other than Fenway Park.  Red Sox tickets for the season finale have shot up in price and it will be interesting to see just how much those ticket prices fluctuate as the season progresses.

First, let's talk about the final game of his home stand. Derek Jeter's final Yankee Stadium game is on September 25th against the Baltimore Orioles (barring the Yankees making the playoffs). Yankee fans from around the world are going to flock to Yankee Stadium to see Jeter play at home for one last time. Before his retirement announcement, tickets could have been purchased for as low as $24. After the announcement, ticket prices skyrocketed and the cheapest ticket you can currently find is $177. The average ticket price for this game is $590.

Comparatively, the final regular season game against the Red Sox is actually more expensive.  The final game that Derek Jeter will play (again, barring a Yankee playoff berth) is Sunday, September 28th at Fenway Park. It will be very interesting to see how the Red Sox faithful respond to Derek Jeter, especially if the game has any bearing on the standings. According to Razorgator, the average ticket price for this game is currently $619 – almost $30 higher than at Yankee stadium three days before – while the cheapest ticket you can get is $163 ($14 less than at Yankee.)  With individual tickets going on sale soon, prices should stabilize a bit and then they will see some major changes, dependent upon how each team performs this year. We’ll just have to wait a few months to find out.
