Top 5 Broadway Tickets Of The Week (4/7)
April 8, 2014
Two relatively new shows highlight the list of top Broadway Tickets this week, with both Bullets Over Broadway and Hedwig & The Angry Inch making the top five. Granted Hedwig & The Angry Inch was the only show to see its ticket prices drop, they just didn’t drop much. Meanwhile Bullets over Broadway had the biggest increase of the week by a wide margin.
4/8/14 Bullets Over Broadway | Avg. Price: $590 | Get-in Price: $49
The Woody Allen adaptation of the 1994 movie by the same title is the top earner for the week. Prices for Bullets Over Broadway tickets are up 150 percent while the show is entering its second week on Broadway.
4/13/14 Matilda | Avg. Price: $476 | Get-in Price: $89
Continuing to compete with Kinky Boots, Matilda came out on top this week. Both shows saw rises in prices, with Matilda ticket prices up 20 percent. The adaptation of the popular Roald Dahl book has received tons of critical acclaim, including seven 2012 Olivier Awards.
4/8/14 Kinky Boots | Avg. Price: $416 | Get-in Price: $141
The 2013 Tony Award winner for Best Musical and Best Original Score continues to do well at the box office. Even with the departure of Lena Hall and Annaleigh Ashford a month ago the show hasn’t lost a beat. On Sunday the show celebrated its first year on Broadway, and now Kinky Boots tickets are up 23 percent for the show on Tuesday.
4/12/14 Motown | Avg. Price: $407 | Get-in Price: $183
Motown didn’t receive a nomination for Best Musical at the Tony’s this past year, but the show’s 66 songs have continued to draw audiences in. Motown tickets are up 53 percent, and the show will be playing in other venues later this year. It is going on tour across the country, and will also be premiering in London.
4/12/14 Hedwig & The Angry Inch | Avg. Price: $403 | Get-in Price: $204
The former 1998 Off-Broadway production has premiered all around the world, and finally had its Broadway premier at the end of March. The former How I Met Your Mother star, Neil Patrick Harris, has been a big draw along with former Kinky Boots star Lena Hall. After an opening weekend that had the theater almost filled to capacity, Hedwig and The Angry Inch tickets are down four percent. That’s still good for the top five on this list. The Show will continue with previews till their official opening night on April 22.
