The Belk Bowl, which will be played on December 30th at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, will pit the Georgia Bulldogs (9-3), who finished 13th in the last AP Poll against the Louisville Cardinals (9-3), who finished 21st. The Georgia Bulldogs appeared to be the SEC East’s best team for nearly the entire season, but inexperience and the loss of running back Todd Gurley II, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate, proved to be too much to overcome. Freshman running back Nick Chubb filled in admirably for Gurley, rushing for 1,281 yards and 12 touchdowns. Georgia made a late-season run at the SEC East title by defeating eventual champion Missouri, 34-0 and Auburn 34-7, but early season losses to South Carolina and Florida proved to be the difference. Quarterback Hutson Mason did not pick up where Andy Murray left off and underwhelmed throughout the season. Mason threw for just 2,019 yards. Ten wins is an important mark for most teams and fans will pay top ticket prices to see whether Georgia or Louisville achieves this mark.
The average ticket price for Georgia vs. Louisville is currently $163.65 on the secondary market while the get-in price for the game is $56. That currently makes it the most expensive Belk Bowl over the past four years on the secondary market. The next most expensive was the 2013 game between Cincinnati and North Carolina.
Despite not having top wide receiver DeVante Parker for the majority of the season, Louisville won nine games in its first year as a member of the ACC. Louisville’s best win came at Notre Dame when freshman quarterback Reggie Bonnafon scored three touchdowns to engineer the victory. Louisville did blow a 21-point lead at home to Florida State, but nine wins is an impressive mark for this program.
While fans can expect to pay top prices to attend the Belk Bowl, a matchup between these two teams should be exciting. Louisville has the opportunity to win ten games for the third straight season. In addition, Louisville has a very senior-level roster and will be motivated to send them off with a victory while Georgia’s relatively young roster will look to build towards next season.
