In the opening matchup of the Hockey City Classic, two division rivals Miami (OH) and Western Michigan will meet for the fourth and final time of the 2014-15 season. They will meet on Saturday, January 31 in their third meeting as Western Michigan will host that one at the Lawson Ice Arena. Western Michigan will be looking for their first win of the season series with the Redhawks. Miami (OH) won the first two meetings back in November as the Redhawks hosted both of those games.

Both teams currently trail in the NCHC conference standings with the Redhawks placed fourth in the conference behind the division leading Omaha by five points. Western Michigan is ranked seventh in the conference trailing by 11 points with a record 11-10-3 as the season winds down.

In the second game of the Hockey City Classic, the Michigan Wolverines will play the second of consecutive games against the Michigan State Spartans. Their second meeting of the season will take place on Friday, January 30 on the Wolverines’ home ice at the Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines won the first meeting which took place last month with Michigan defeating Michigan State 2-1 at the Joe Louis Arena.

These next two games will be critical for Michigan State as they trail the division leading Wolverines of the Big Ten conference by eight points, but could gain some considerable with two victories over their division rival in less than a week.

Tickets that are purchased for the 2015 Hockey City Classic will be valid for both games.
