The 2014 TCU Horned Frogs finished with an impressive 13-1 record, but felt unsatisfied and angry at the College Football Playoff selection committee. Entering the final weekend slotted as the third seed, TCU was unceremoniously bumped out of the Top-4 despite routing Iowa State, 55-3. Instead of sulking, TCU routed Ole Miss, 42-3 in the Peach Bowl to finish its season on a high-note. Quarterback Trevone Boykin cemented his status as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in college football. Boykin threw for 3,903 yards and 33 touchdowns while rushing for 707 yards and eight touchdowns. Boykin is the odds-on favorite to win the 2015 Heisman Trophy. Boykin’s top target, junior wide receiver, Josh Doctson, caught 65 passes for 1,018 yards and eleven touchdowns. Doctson will return for his senior season. While TCU’s offense was prolific and scored 46.5 points per game, its defense set the tone. TCU’s defense allowed just 19 points per game, which was the eighth best mark in college football. TCU will lose several key starters, including linebacker Paul Dawson and defensive tackle, Chucky Hunter, but head coach, Gary Patterson, will not let his team become complacent.

Entering the 2015 season, expectations are sky-high. Boykin and Doctson will form one of the best combinations in college football. Despite losing several starters on defense, TCU signed 22 commits, which includes dynamic playmakers on both sides of the ball. Of note, wide receivers Jalen Austin, JF Thomas, and cornerback Montrel Wilson will be players to watch.  TCU is courting several top defensive line prospects, so defense should be well-stocked with playmakers. Add in the motivation of being ‘snubbed’ from the College Football Playoff and TCU should be in the running for the 2016 National Championship.
