Louisville’s finest, My Morning Jacket, will head for their hometown this summer after being confirmed as one of four headliners at this year’s Forecastle Festival.
Jim James and co. will join multiple Grammy nominee Sam Smith, jam band veterans Widespread Panic and fellow indie rockers Modest Mouse at the top of the bill for the 14th annual festival, which returns to Waterfront Park on the weekend of July 17-19.
The 75,000 fans expected to attend this year can look forward to an eclectic mix with artists from the worlds of rock (Portugal. The Man, The Gaslight Anthem), punk (King Tuff, Speedy Ortiz,), folk (The Tallest Man on Earth, First Aid Kit), hip-hop (Big K.R.I.T., iLoveMakonnen), country (Sturgill Simpson, The Lone Bellow), electronica (RL Grime) and soul (St. Paul and the Broken Bones) all scheduled to play.
Other notable artists include Tweedy, aka Wilco frontman Jeff and his son Spencer, Canadian diva Kiesza, who scored one of last year’s biggest dance hits with “Hideaway,” and other local favorites Cage The Elephant and Houndmouth, as well as The Gaslight Anthem, The Word, Fly Golden Eagle, Alvvays, People Under The Stairs, Son Lux, JEFF The Brotherhood, San Fermin, Milo Greene, Field Report, White Reaper, Twin Peaks, and Shovels and Rope, with a second batch of names expected to be announced in the near future.
Festivalgoers can also enjoy a beverage in several unique drinking establishments including The Bourbon Lodge and The Gonzo Bar, the latter of which is named in honor of Louisville native Hunter S. Thompson, as well as checking out several local food trucks and craft vendors.
