Vegas Odds Leveling Out As More Bets Are Being Placed on Pacquiao
March 4, 2015
Manny Pacquaio hasn’t thrown a punch yet, but he’s already tipping the betting scales in Las Vegas. ABC News is reporting that an excess of bets are being placed on Pacquiao to win The Fight of Century against Floyd Mayweather, Jr., which is scheduled to take place on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Such a big influx in Pacquaio’s favor has caused odds to adjust, making the title fight seemingly more leveled than it once appeared to be.
Mayweather was the fight’s initial victor and opened as a 2 1/2-1 favorite after the fight was announced last month, but 150 tickets written for Pacquiao greatly surpassed that of Mayweather’s 10. Perhaps it’s the hype surrounding the fight that’s allowed Pacquiao to even the scale. According to long-time bookmaker Jimmy Vaccaro, it’s the lowest he’s ever seen Mayweather just eight weeks prior to a fight.
Mayweather takes his undefeated 47-0 record to Las Vegas with him on May 2. Pacquiao is 57-5-2 in his professional career.
