The Minnesota Wild just completed their second best season in franchise history. That history is just 14 seasons long, but 2014-15 was the second season in that 14 year history in which the Wild accumulated over 100 points. Even with the 100 point season, Minnesota was only able to finish fourth in the Central division. Having the St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators and Chicago Blackhawks in that division can have that effect.
Minnesota has made the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, winning only one series last year. The Wild defeated the Colorado Avalanche in seven games last season, three of which were played at Xcel Energy Center. The average price for those games on the secondary market was $157.19. In the previous year, Minnesota took on Chicago in a losing effort over five games in the first round. Minnesota hosted two games of that series with an average price of $178.20.
Wild playoff tickets currently have an average price of $355.37, 81.5% above last season and 60% above 2013. That average includes the three possible home games Minnesota could host as a Wild Card in the first round. During the regular season, Wild tickets had an average price of $142, the 11th highest average in the league. That places a 101% premium over the regular season.
Minnesota will be the underdog the opening round series against the St. Louis Blues, but the prices will be significantly more expensive in Minnesota than St. Louis. Games at Xcel Energy Arena will be 120% more expensive during the first round than those at the Scottrade Center.
St. Louis will be making its fourth consecutive appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs. That, however, is not bringing huge premiums on the secondary market. Blues playoff tickets have an average price of $161.35, 60.5% above the regular season average.
The Blues were among the top teams during the regular season, tied with the Anaheim Ducks for most points in the Western Conference. St. Louis will hope that success can carry over to the playoffs, as the franchise has gone the past two years without making it out of the first round.
Minnesota and St. Louis split four games during the regular season. The Blues won the most recent meeting on the last day of the regular season by a score of 4-2.
