2015 Cardinals Opening Day Ticket Prices Are 57% Higher Than 2014
April 7, 2015
(UPDATE 4/7) The St. Louis Cardinals got a win on Opening Night of the 2015 MLB season in Chicago. They will have their own Opening Day on April 13 in St. Louis. The Cardinals will host the Milwaukee Brewers for the first 2015 game at Busch Stadium. Prices have fallen since the offseason, but are still significantly higher than the overall secondary market season average.
Cardinals Opening Day tickets currently have an average price of $145.14 with a get-in price of $46. The Cardinals’ season average on the secondary market is $81.47, marking a 78% premium for Opening Day tickets. Following the first home game of the season, the proceeding two game against Milwaukee on April 15 and 16 will have average prices of $36 and $50, respectively.

The St. Louis Cardinals are seeking their third straight National League Central division crown. After easily dispatching the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-to-1 in the National League Division Series, St. Louis ran into a hot San Francisco Giants team in the National League Championship Series and lost the series, 4-to-1. St. Louis boasts one of the most complete rosters in baseball and is led by its ace, Adam Wainwright. Last season, Wainwright went 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA and finished third in National League Cy Young voting. Outfielder Matt Holliday leads St. Louis’s relatively young roster through production and leadership. Last season, Holliday led the team with 90 RBIs while shortstop Jhonny Peralta led the team with 21 home runs. Due to a position change, third baseman Matt Carpenter took a slight step back last season, but led the team in walks (95). During the offseason, St. Louis traded for 24-year-old right fielder Jason Heyward, who had a solid career as an Atlanta Brave. Heyward is one year away from free agency, so he has plenty of incentive to have a big season. St. Louis did have to surrender starting pitcher, Shelby Miller, who showed promise early in his career and still has four years of team control. It was a big trade for a team that puts a premium on keeping and developing its young players.
On TicketIQ, the average price on the secondary market for Cardinals Opening Day tickets is $254.19 while the get-in price is $88. Ticket prices for Opening Day 2015 are the highest over the last five Opening Days at Busch Stadium.

The higher ticket prices are directly tied to St. Louis’s long-standing rivalry with the Milwaukee Brewers. Last season, Milwaukee led the National League Central for nearly five months, but sputtered during September. St. Louis played exceptionally well during September and surged towards a division championship. St. Louis has appeared in the National League Championship Series in three straight seasons and will look to win its 12th World Series title in 2015.
