Rangers Game 7 Tickets vs Have Dropped 42.7% On Secondary Market In Last Two Days

(UPDATE 5/29/15) Rangers Game tickets have dropped 42.7% on the secondary market since the conclusion of Game 7. Friday night’s game now has an average price of $875.81 just hours before the puck is scheduled to drop. That average is now below the listed average for the first two games of the series at Madison Square Garden. The get-in price has also nearly been cut in half over the past two days. After New York’s 7-3 win on Tuesday, the get-in price for Game 7 was $701. That has now been dropped to just $398, which is still the most expensive get-in price of the series.

(UPDATE 5/28/15) As Game time approaches, Game 7 tickets are becoming more affordable. With an extra day of rest between Games 6 and 7, there also remains more time for prices to fluctuate and that’s what’s currently happening. Rangers tickets for Game 7 on the secondary market have an average price of $1,215.60, which is down 20.4% from yesterday’s average. The get-in price has also significantly dropped from $701 to $493. Available ticket quantity has not changed much since the conclusion of Game 6, indicating prices could continue to drop before the puck drops on Friday night.

In other NHL playoff news, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Anaheim Ducks in game 6 last night to force their own game 7, which will be played on Saturday night at the Honda Center. Tickets for that game are averaging $408.77 on the secondary market, 66% less expensive than Rangers-Lightning at MSG. The get-in price in Anaheim is just $163.

With this game 7, the NHL has now had 27 game 7's in the last five years compared to 15 in the NBA, and just three in Major League Baseball.

Rangers vs Lightning Game 7 Tickets Now Averaging Over $1,500 Per Seat

(5/27/15) Another series, another Game 7. For the second series in a row, the New York Rangers will play a deciding Game 7 at Madison Square Garden. And for the second series in a row ticket prices will be among the priciest recorded on the secondary market for an NHL game.

New York’s Game 7 in the previous round against the Washington Capitals was the most expensive non-Stanley Cup Final game on the secondary market since TicketIQ started keeping track of data in 2010. The average for the game was $1,060.15, 61.36% above the overall series average. That was just for the Eastern Conference Semifinal. On Friday night, the Rangers will host the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Final for a chance to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. As expected, Rangers tickets aren’t going to be cheap.

The current average price for Game 7 is $1,528.86, which overtakes the previous round’s Game 7 as the most expensive non-Stanley Cup Final game. The get-in price of $701 is more expensive than the average price of all three games of the series held in Tampa Bay. The most expensive average of those games was Tuesday’s Game 6 with an average of $433.42.

Consistency has not been a key to the series so far, as no games has held a relation to any other. After winning Game 4 by a score of 5-1, the Rangers were shut out by Ben Bishop and the Lightning 2-0 in Game 5, only to come back and win Game 6 by a score of 7-3.

Game 7s in the Stanley Cup Playoffs typically come down to goaltending and that’s where the Rangers have an edge. Henrik Lundqvist has given up six goals in the series twice, but has an overall save percentage of .900. Ben Bishop is under 90% with a save percentage of .889 while facing 19 less shots than Lundqvist for the series. Lundqvist is 6-1 in Game 7s during his career, while Bishop is 1-0, a 2-0 quarterfinals win over the Detroit Red Wings earlier this year.

While the winner will advance to the Stanley Cup Final, secondary market ticket prices will vary greatly depending on which team leaves Madison Square Garden victorious on Friday night. Lightning Stanley Cup Final tickets have a listed average price of $1115.11. Rangers Stanley Cup Final tickets will be 130% more expensive with an average price $2,564.59 across four potential home games.
