One Direction, the popular pop music boy-band, is getting their story made into a musical. No, seriously!
One Direction will have a musical produced based off their story called Only One Direction: The One Direction Story. The production was confirmed by Broadway.com this week!
Just to be clear, the musical will not actually star the popular boy-band, but instead carefully selected actors to portray the boys on stage will star. Before anyone can ask, yes, Zayn’s character will be in the musical. The tuner, which will officially have its West End debut from October 26-28th at London’s Lyric Theatre, bills itself as “a concert celebrating the music of the biggest boyband in history,” according to Broadway.com’s post on the subject. The post also indicated that popular songs from all four of the band’s albums will be featured in the musical as well.
This actually isn’t the first time that a popular band had their music, and sometimes their story, written into a musical theater form. The Beatles had their music comprised into the Broadway hit Let it Be, and ABBA had their music formed into the recently Broadway departed tuner, Mamma Mia! It is not surprising to any Directioners that a musical is being done on the band’s story, it was only a matter of time.
Directioners, hold your excitement though: it has not been confirmed that this musical will be coming to Broadway, yet.
