April Music Festival Preview: Coachella, Beale Street Music, and New Orleans Jazz Fest

April 1, 2016

Generally speaking, April tends to be the month of the year where things really kick into high gear for the music festival season. Beginning mid-April, one of the biggest festivals in the country, Coachella, will kick off for a back-to-back weekend event in Indio, California, with passes skyrocketing on the resale market. For fans looking for a cheaper experience, there are a handful of smaller yet similarly impressive festival destinations, including Beale Street Music Festival as well as the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Below is a breakdown of ticket pricing for each event, with ticket info provided by TicketIQ.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival | Indio, California | Average Price: $772 | Get-in Price: $474

In the music festival world, it doesn’t usually get much bigger than Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The annual festival is held across two-weekends (April 15 - April 24) at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, located in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. Going into its 14th year, the 2016 lineup includes headlining acts include Guns N' Roses, LCD Soundsystem, and Calvin Harris, as well as a slew of dozens of other major acts like the 1975, Foals, CHVRCHES, Grimes, and more. Tickets for Coachella are currently averaging $772 for both weekends, but the cheapest pass can be purchased for $474.

Beale Street Music Festival | Memphis, Tennessee | Average Price: $237 | Get-in Price: $139

Although Beale Street Music Festival may not generate the same enormous conversation that festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo do, this year’s lineup is nothing to scoff at. The festival, which takes place April 29 – May 1 at Tom Lee Park in Memphis, Tennessee, boasts an impressive lineup for an even more impressive price. This year, artists featured at Beale Street include Beck, Neil Young + Promise of the Real, Paul Simon, Weezer, Modest Mouse, Dan Auerbach’s The Arcs, Courtney Barnett, Young the Giant, Cold War Kids, Grace Potter, and Julien Baker. Beale Street Music Festival tickets on the secondary market are available in the 3-day or single-day options. 3-day passes are averaging just $237 for the weekend, and the cheapest pass is up for grabs for $139. In terms of a bargain, Beale Street may very well be the best festival on the map. Other confirmed acts include Zedd, Cypress Hill, Barenaked Ladies, Violent Femmes, Lucinda Williams, Meghan Trainor, Panic! at the Disco, and Gin Blossoms.

New Orleans Jazz Festival | New Orleans, Louisiana | Average Price: $346 | Get-in Price: $333

New Orleans Jazz Festival may take the cake this year for one of the most impressively diverse lineups. Although its name might be misleading, the Jazz Fest does an excellent job meshing genres as well as classic and contemporary artists. 2016’s roster includes Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young + Promise of the Real, Snoop Dogg, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Beck, Nick Jonas and many more. Although the festival may not be the top spot for those looking for the biggest EDM artists of today, it certainly caters to fans of almost every other genre. Similarly to Coachella, the Jazz Fest spreads its lineup across two weekends, and this year it will be held from April 22-24, and April 24-May 1. Passes for New Orleans Jazz Festival tickets are averaging $346 on the resale market, with the cheapest pass going for $333.
