While no official agreement has been made, the alleged mega fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather appears to be gaining momentum.
McGregor's head coach, John Kavanaugh, told FOX Sports that the 28-year-old superstar is in the beginning stages of preparation despite the contract holdup for the proposed fight. Both camps have expressed their willingness to see the fight come to fruition in recent months, with Mayweather insisting he'll only come out of retirement to face McGregor in the ring.
No set date has been set for the match, though multiple sources have told FOX Sports a mid-September meeting in Las Vegas is the most likely scenario. McGregor is expecting his first child in late April or early May and is expected to move his training to Sin City shortly thereafter. He was recently granted permission to apply for a boxing license in the state of Nevada after receiving a fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for his scuffle with Nate Diaz leading up to UFC 202.
That will likely make Mayweather's camp happy, as the 40-year-old hasn't fought outside of Vegas since 2006.

McGregor has no prior professional boxing experience but is confident in his ability to take down the undefeated Mayweather outside the octagon. He owns a 21-3 record in 24 professional Mixed Martial Arts matches. His last MMA fight came against Eddie Alvarez this past November at Madison Square Garden. The first-ever UFC event held in New York City, UFC president Dana White described it as the "biggest fight card" in the company's history.
Mayweather owns a perfect 49-0 professional record with 26 of those wins coming by way of KO. His last fight came in September 2015 when he defeated Andre Berto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. He has held his last 12 fights in the Paradise-based venue.
Should the fight officially be confirmed, fans can expect tickets to move fast once the onsale is announced. Both fighters have set record price points on the resale market for respective boxing and UFC events. McGregor's UFC 205 bout in Manhattan was the most expensive UFC event TicketIQ has tracked since 2010, with tickets averaging upwards of $2,200 and staring from over $870 each.
